5 House Cleaners That Need Regular Cleaning

House cleaning is easier with the use of different tools and equipment collectively known as house cleaners. Ironically, these cleaning tools can actually be a spreader of germs and bacteria if not properly maintained. House cleaners too need regular cleaning so they can function more effectively and avoid spreading germs and other bacteria.

Here are the five common house cleaners with tips on how to clean them:

Dishwasher

Dishwashers are a popular appliance used in many households. They can help simplify the daunting task of washing or cleaning dishes. But without regular cleaning or maintenance, your dishwasher can become a breeding ground for fungi, bacteria, and even molds. It can also leave a bad odor on your dishes. You can schedule a thorough cleaning of your dishwasher at least once a month. Pick up all the debris at the bottom of the drain and run a full cycle of the dishwasher with just a cup of white vinegar in water. The vinegar is also an effective cleaner for dishwashers.

Vacuum Cleaner

A vacuum cleaner is a useful tool for cleaning around the home. But if your vacuum cleaner is dirty, it won’t be able to effectively clean most of the dirt. If you have a vacuum cleaner that uses a bag, replace that bag when it is already half-full. For a bag-less vacuum cleaner, clean the canister and throw away the dirt after each use. Pull out also strands of hair and fabric stuck in the brush.

Dusters and Brooms

Dusters and brooms are perhaps the easiest cleaners to maintain. You just have to shake them off outside the house preferably after each use so that they will be always ready for the next.

Sponges

Sponges are very useful cleaners but they can be the dirtiest if not cleaned regularly. Sponges can be a breeding ground for germs. If they are not cleaned and disinfected every day, the germs will spread out to places in your kitchen where these sponges are used to clean its surfaces. To clean sponges, soak your sponge in a solution with equal parts vinegar and equal parts hot water and leave it overnight. Additionally, do not use a sponge for cleaning the sink when you are using it also to clean your dishes. Doing so will just allow the spreading of bacteria to your dishes which might transfer to your food and eventually to you. It would be good to have a sponge for different purposes like one for the dishes, one for the kitchen sink, and another for other kitchen surfaces to avoid the spreading of germs.

Mops

Mops too can be a breeding ground for germs and bacteria. If not cleaned regularly, mops can be their carrier to spread them throughout your house. So after using your mop, do not just toss it in a corner. Clean your mop first by soaking it in a gallon of hot water with 1 tablespoon of bleach. Squeeze out any excess water and air-dry it afterwards. This should prepare your mop for the next use.

The cleaners mentioned above are basic cleaners most people have in their homes. If you want your cleaners to be efficient and more importantly, not to be a spreader of germs and bacteria, you have to clean them diligently and regularly.
